What makes a banner work
- Leave the bottom left empty. Your photo covers it on a computer.
- One idea, big. It is shown small on a phone. A short line people can read at a glance beats a paragraph.
- Start large. A picture at least 1584 pixels wide stays sharp. A small one gets stretched and looks soft.
- Say what you do for whom. The banner is the first thing someone sees after your name.
Questions
What size is a LinkedIn banner?
1584 × 396 pixels, a JPG or PNG under 8 MB. LinkedIn’s help pages call it the cover image or the background photo, and both give that size (read on 24 October 2026).
Why does my LinkedIn banner look blurry?
Usually because the picture was smaller than 1584 × 396 and LinkedIn stretched it. LinkedIn’s own advice is to choose an image with a larger file size, and it adds: “Photos will also look better than images with logos.” The resizer above warns you when a picture is too small for the frame.
What part of the banner does my profile photo cover?
On a computer, your photo sits over the bottom left of the banner, so words or faces there get hidden. Turn on “Show where your photo sits” above to see roughly where. The phone app places it a little differently, so keep what matters toward the middle and right.
What size should a LinkedIn profile photo be?
At least 400 × 400 pixels and at most 7680 × 4320, under 8 MB. LinkedIn shows it in a circle, so keep your face in the middle. The resizer saves it at 800 × 800.
Can I use a GIF?
Not for your profile photos: LinkedIn’s page says “We don’t support GIFs.” Use a JPG or PNG.
Is my picture uploaded anywhere?
No. The resizer runs in your browser. The picture never leaves your computer until you upload it to LinkedIn yourself.
