HeyReagent / LinkedIn in n8n
LinkedIn in n8n: messages, invitations and search
n8n’s own LinkedIn node creates posts and nothing else. To send a message or an invitation, read your inbox or search people from a workflow, you call an API that does those on your own account. Here are the two ways to do that with HeyReagent, with what to type in each field.
What n8n's LinkedIn node does
One thing. n8n's documentation for the node says it "supports creating posts", and for anything else points to the HTTP Request node. n8n's documentation.
Way one: an HTTP Request node
Every action is one POST, so one HTTP Request node does one thing. First sign in, connect your LinkedIn, and create a key under Menu, then Developers. This sends a message:
| Method | POST |
| URL | https://api.heyreagent.com/v1/actions/send_message |
| Send Headers | On. Name Authorization, Value Bearer YOUR_KEY |
| Send Body | On. Body Content Type JSON, Specify Body Using JSON, then paste the body below |
{
"profileUrl": "PASTE_PROFILE_LINK_HERE",
"text": "Hello!"
}The answer is { "ok": true, "result": { … } }, or { "ok": false, "error": "…", "message": "…" } with the reason in plain English. The actions n8n workflows use most:
search_peopleSearch people on ordinary LinkedIn by plain words, a place name and connection degree.send_invitationSend one connection invitation, now.send_messageSend one message to a 1st-degree connection, or into an existing conversation, now.list_conversationsList the conversations in the stored copy of your inbox, across your accounts.who_is_waiting_on_meList the people whose last message you have not answered.get_post_engagersList who reacted to and who commented on one post, together.
Way two: the MCP Client Tool node, inside an AI agent
If your workflow has an AI Agent node, give it all the actions at once and let it choose:
https://api.heyreagent.com/mcpn8nUses your key.
- Add an MCP Client Tool node to your agent.
- Endpoint: the address above. Server Transport: HTTP Streamable.
- Authentication: Bearer Auth, with your key.
Two workflows to start from
Each is a file you import: in n8n, open a new workflow, press the three dots at the top right, then Import from URL, and paste the address. Then put your key in a Bearer Auth credential, as the note inside the workflow says.
| Find people and invite them | Search by plain words and a place, then send each person an invitation with your note. https://heyreagent.com/n8n/find-people-and-invite.json |
| Invite who reacted to a post | Paste a post's link and invite the people who reacted to it. https://heyreagent.com/n8n/invite-post-reactors.json |
Workflows people build
One action does one thing; a workflow is a few in a row, where the answer of one feeds the next. These are written out step by step, with the body of each call:
- Find people and invite them
- Take back an invitation nobody answered
- Read a conversation and reply
- Answer the invitations you received
- Invite the people who reacted to a post
- Search with a LinkedIn filter (for example, a city)
- Comment on someone's latest post
Before you put it on a schedule
On the free plan LinkedIn is disconnected after an hour without use. That is fine while you build and test, and it means a workflow that runs tomorrow morning will be told linkedin_disconnected. The Connect plan keeps LinkedIn connected, which is what a scheduled workflow needs.
The same call in curl, JavaScript and Python:
curl -X POST https://api.heyreagent.com/v1/actions/send_message \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY" \
-H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{"profileUrl":"PASTE_PROFILE_LINK_HERE","text":"Hello!"}'The same call in JavaScript
const response = await fetch("https://api.heyreagent.com/v1/actions/send_message", {
method: "POST",
headers: {
"Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_KEY",
"content-type": "application/json",
},
body: JSON.stringify({
"profileUrl": "PASTE_PROFILE_LINK_HERE",
"text": "Hello!"
}),
});
const answer = await response.json();
console.log(answer);The same call in Python
import requests
response = requests.post(
"https://api.heyreagent.com/v1/actions/send_message",
headers={"Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_KEY"},
json={
"profileUrl": "PASTE_PROFILE_LINK_HERE",
"text": "Hello!",
},
)
print(response.json())The same call in n8n
Add an HTTP Request node and fill it in like this:
| Method | POST |
| URL | https://api.heyreagent.com/v1/actions/send_message |
| Send Headers | On. Name Authorization, Value Bearer YOUR_KEY |
| Send Body | On. Body Content Type JSON, Specify Body Using JSON, then paste the body below |
{
"profileUrl": "PASTE_PROFILE_LINK_HERE",
"text": "Hello!"
}Questions
Can n8n send LinkedIn messages?
Not with its own LinkedIn node, which only creates posts. It can with an HTTP Request node that calls an API which sends on your account, such as HeyReagent’s send_message action.
Is there an n8n LinkedIn node for outreach?
n8n’s built-in LinkedIn node has one operation, creating a post. For messages, invitations and search you use the HTTP Request node, or the MCP Client Tool node inside an AI agent.
Will a scheduled workflow run on the free plan?
Not reliably. On the free plan LinkedIn is disconnected after an hour without use, so a workflow that runs the next morning finds it disconnected. The Connect plan, at $29.99 a month, keeps it connected.
How many messages and invitations can a workflow send?
Each LinkedIn account has a daily limit for each kind of action: 100 messages and 80 invitations a day, for example. An action past its limit is refused, with the time it resets.
Is it safe for my LinkedIn account?
LinkedIn’s User Agreement does not allow automated activity, and LinkedIn can limit or restrict an account. The daily limits lower that risk. They do not remove it.
