HeyReagent / LinkedIn API for messages
A LinkedIn API for messages, invitations and search
LinkedIn has an API for messaging, and you probably cannot use it: it is restricted to approved partners. HeyReagent is a plain API for your own LinkedIn account instead. One POST sends a message, another an invitation, another searches people. It is free to start, and it is not made by LinkedIn.
What LinkedIn's own API allows
- The Messages API page says: "Usage of this API is restricted to approved partners." It also says "member actions do not include an automated or scheduled event". LinkedIn's Messages API documentation.
- The Sales Navigator API page says: "We are not currently accepting new partners for access to the LinkedIn Sales Navigator API." LinkedIn's Sales Navigator documentation.
One call
Sign in, connect your LinkedIn, and create a key under Menu, then Developers. This sends a message to a connection:
curl -X POST https://api.heyreagent.com/v1/actions/send_message \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY" \
-H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{"profileUrl":"PASTE_PROFILE_LINK_HERE","text":"Hello!"}'The same call in JavaScript
const response = await fetch("https://api.heyreagent.com/v1/actions/send_message", {
method: "POST",
headers: {
"Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_KEY",
"content-type": "application/json",
},
body: JSON.stringify({
"profileUrl": "PASTE_PROFILE_LINK_HERE",
"text": "Hello!"
}),
});
const answer = await response.json();
console.log(answer);The same call in Python
import requests
response = requests.post(
"https://api.heyreagent.com/v1/actions/send_message",
headers={"Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_KEY"},
json={
"profileUrl": "PASTE_PROFILE_LINK_HERE",
"text": "Hello!",
},
)
print(response.json())The same call in n8n
Add an HTTP Request node and fill it in like this:
| Method | POST |
| URL | https://api.heyreagent.com/v1/actions/send_message |
| Send Headers | On. Name Authorization, Value Bearer YOUR_KEY |
| Send Body | On. Body Content Type JSON, Specify Body Using JSON, then paste the body below |
{
"profileUrl": "PASTE_PROFILE_LINK_HERE",
"text": "Hello!"
}Every action is called the same way: a POST to https://api.heyreagent.com/v1/actions/ and its name, your key in the Authorization header, the inputs as JSON. The answer is { "ok": true, "result": { … } }, or { "ok": false, "error": "…", "message": "…" } with the reason in plain English.

Questions
Does LinkedIn have an API?
Yes, and most of it is not open to everyone. Its Messages API page says usage is restricted to approved partners, and its Sales Navigator API page says LinkedIn is not currently accepting new partners.
Is there a LinkedIn API to send messages?
LinkedIn’s own is for approved partners, and its documentation says a message must be tied to a specific member action, not an automated or scheduled event. HeyReagent is a separate, independent API that sends on your own account: one POST to send_message.
Is it free?
There is a free plan with every Connect action, on which LinkedIn is disconnected after a while without use. The Connect plan, at $29.99 a month for each LinkedIn account, keeps it connected.
Is there an OpenAPI file?
Yes: https://heyreagent.com/openapi.json. The docs are also there as one Markdown file for AI apps: https://heyreagent.com/llms-full.txt.
Is this LinkedIn’s official API?
No. HeyReagent is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by LinkedIn. It acts on your own account, and LinkedIn’s User Agreement does not allow automated activity, so LinkedIn can limit or restrict an account.
