HeyReagent / How to update your LinkedIn profile from your AI app

How to update your LinkedIn profile from your AI app

Tell your AI app what you want your LinkedIn profile to say, and it writes the change, shows you a preview, and makes the change only when you say yes. It can change your headline, your About section, your location, your website link, one job or school at a time, your skills and your pictures.

Can my AI app change my LinkedIn profile?

Yes, your own profile, and only after you agree. One action does all of it. Asked with nothing to change, it reads your profile as it is now. Asked with a change, it shows a preview and changes nothing. Only when you say yes does it change the profile.

  • "Show me my LinkedIn profile as it is now."
  • "Read my headline and my About section."

What it can change: the headline, the About section, the location, the website link near the top, one job or one school per change, skills to add, the profile picture, the cover picture, and your open to work job preferences.

If you have more than one LinkedIn account connected, say whose profile to change. With one account, it uses that one.

How do I rewrite my LinkedIn headline?

The headline is the line under your name, up to 220 characters. Say who you want to reach, and let your AI app write a few versions from your current profile. Pick one, read the preview, then say yes.

  • "Write three LinkedIn headlines for me, for founders who hire their first salespeople. Keep each under 220 characters."
  • "Use the second one. Show me the preview first."
  • "Yes, change it."

Nothing changes on your profile until that last yes. If the preview is not right, say what to change and ask for a new preview.

How do I update my About section?

The About section can be up to 2600 characters, and a change replaces the whole section. So ask your AI app to start from what is there now, and to show you the full new text before it saves it.

  • "Read my About section and rewrite it in shorter sentences. Keep what I say about my clients."
  • "Show me the whole new About section before you change anything."

You can change the location the same way. Say a place name, such as a city. The preview shows which LinkedIn place it matched, and lists the choices when the name fits more than one.

Adding a new job, or editing one

Each change adds or edits one job, or one school. To add a job, give the title and the company. Leave out the end date for the job you have now. To edit a job that is already there, say which one: the profile your AI app read lists each one with an id it keeps.

  • "Add a new job to my profile: Head of Sales at Northwind, since March 2026, remote."
  • "Link that job to the Northwind company page on LinkedIn."
  • "Change the description of my last job to these three lines."

To link a job to a company page, your AI app first finds that company on LinkedIn and uses its id.

Skills, pictures and open to work

  • Skills: up to 20 new skills in one change, by name. The skills already on your profile stay. Removing a skill is not something this action does.
  • Pictures: a public web link straight to a JPEG or PNG file, up to 8MB, for the profile picture or the cover picture. LinkedIn crops the profile picture its own way.
  • Open to work: your AI app can set the job preferences. It cannot turn open to work off. Do that on LinkedIn itself.
  • "Add these skills to my profile: sales hiring, outbound, pipeline reviews."
  • "Set this image as my cover picture."

Every one of these goes through the same preview first. The list of what each part takes is on the action's own page.

Where to set it up

You ask in the AI app you already use. Connect it once, then ask in plain words as above. The setup for each app is on its own page: Claude, ChatGPT, Meta Muse, n8n, or the plain API.

Questions

Will my AI app change my LinkedIn profile without asking me?

No. A change first comes back as a preview, and nothing on your profile changes. The profile changes only when the action is asked again with your yes. If your AI app has not shown you a preview, it has not changed anything.

Can it remove a skill or a job from my profile?

It adds skills and keeps the ones already there, and it cannot remove one. It adds or edits jobs and schools one at a time. To remove a skill, a job or a school, do it on LinkedIn itself.

Can it endorse a skill on someone else's profile?

Yes, one skill at a time, as its own action. Your AI app reads the person's profile in depth to find the skill, then endorses it. Skills endorsed have a daily limit of 20 for each account.

Can LinkedIn restrict my account for using it?

LinkedIn's User Agreement does not allow automated activity, and LinkedIn can limit or restrict an account that it decides is automated. Every kind of action here has a daily limit for each account to lower that risk. The limits do not remove it.
